re: Facebook Ads
Given our conversation about Facebook ads utilizing your information from your profile to better market towards you. I thought it was funny that this was an ad on the side of my profile. I also thought how the internet allows for alternatives to traditional definitions of beauty since it doesn't require large amounts of advertising dollars to fund a website.

Yeah. I keep getting one about gay people in Israel and I really thought that it was strange that everyone would get such a peculiar advertisement. But, it does say that I'm interested in men on my profile. But how would they know that I'm Jewish? Or do they? Freaky stuff.
And that website for women with hairy arms is very strange. Somewhere on your profile do you mention hair maybe?
Very strange.

this could be very interesting research-- to see what sorts of ads facebook sends to whom and why.
Obviously there is some sort of robot making links, but who is programming the robot?

I get the gay people in Israel one too. No listed interest in men, women, or Judaism (though I am Jewish.) I also get one—a lot—asking me "Are You Expecting?" with a photo of a baby beneath it. I hate babies. A lot. We are either highly overestimating the amount of information Facebook passes along to advertisers or the accuracy with which their algorithm processes that info.
Google does a much better job on both fronts.
