my name is ---, i like to dance
for whatever reasons, i've been way into children's media lately (blame the internship). my current guilty pleasure is the show on nickelodeon, YO! GABBA GABBA, which is mostly about love, music and dancing. each episode features special guests such as biz markee and elijah wood, teaching strange/fun things like beat-boxing and puppet-man dancing.
it seems as though i'm not the only non-kid who's into the show, though. e! network's "the soup" has taken an interest in the kids' dance moves as well:

So I finally had a chance to see this Yo Gabba Gabba video...and first off I think it's hilarious...but I also wanted to comment on the aspect of children's television being watched by older generations. This past summer I worked at Nickelodeon and there is a relatively new show on called Let's Just Play where kids are encouraged to stay active and healthy. This season the show follows two kids: April who has the goal of making it onto her school’s volleyball team and Kenderick who has the goal of competing in a triathlon. Along the way, April’s family and friends are all very supportive and Kenderick’s Mom even starts taking up the challenge with her son. The show is encouraging kids and their families to stay active and healthy together (while remaining glued to the television set??) and parents have become frequent viewers of the show.
Also, I have always loved Nickelodeon and working there gave me a chance to check out the new shows that are on that I would never have watched otherwise. I willingly admit that there are a few that I am really excited about watching! There is a new show that is airing this April called The Mighty B! and the creator is Amy Poehler who voices the main character of Bessie Higgenbottom. The show is hilarious and I can’t wait for it to come on. I think that there is starting to be a push for shows that span the age range especially with all of the controversy over what children are watching and with people worrying about how much time they are really spending with their kids. I think these shows are starting to pop up that children love and adults don’t mind, sometimes even really enjoy. This allows for parents to keep an eye on what their kids are watching while spending “quality?” time together.
